Google and Facebook Reviews
Google and Facebook Reviews
Google Reviews Policies
- You CAN ask customers for reviews
- You CANNOT offer incentives (money, discounts, gifts, etc.) for reviews
- You CANNOT selectively ask only happy customers for reviews
- You CANNOT have tablets/kiosks set up in your business for reviews (must be customers’ own devices)
- You CANNOT respond to negative reviews with offers to resolve them if they change the review
- Reviews must be left from individual personal accounts, not shared devices or business accounts
Facebook Reviews Policies
- You CAN ask customers for reviews
- You CANNOT incentivize reviews in any way (no rewards/discounts)
- You CANNOT trade reviews with other businesses
- You CAN respond to negative reviews and offer to resolve issues
- You CAN run ads that ask for reviews (but still can’t incentivize)
Both platforms
- – Prohibit review gating (filtering out unhappy customers)
- Ban fake reviews or asking employees to leave reviews
- Allow you to respond to reviews professionally
- Have systems to detect and remove suspicious review patterns
The safest approach is to simply ask all customers for honest reviews without any rewards or filtering.
